Remember those lovely postcards we used to send each other whenever we traveled?
I got to thinking the other day that I haven’t seen a postcard in a number of years and maybe I should create some, you know, just to have around so that I can send them whenever the spirit moves me. I was hoping She’d move me to higher ground, as this has been a low week, with socked in grey-moody-days, lots of rain and difficult times of loss for dear friends.
So, I found my small stack of handmade paper postcards, the ones with the deckle edges, and gave them a coat of Gesso.
Then I turned the music up and started painting.
One postcard after another, with little time to over-think the process.
I painted with acrylics, and then added oil pastels and crayons, and generally goofed around with stuff like gold leaf and metallic sewing threads. This is how I discover all sorts of techniques for future work.
Those of you who know me well, know I love to play because there is no expectation for the outcome.
My gosh, it’s just a small 5 x 7 inch postcard and if I don’t like it I just paint over it with another layer of gesso and go at it, again.
So here they are.
Postcards From The Inside. The Space Between.
Each one is an original. I framed a couple and hung them in my room.
The rest, I will be sending to loved ones as the spirit moves me.
Stay awesome SweetArts and may the spirit move you to higher ground.
With Love,
XO, Jan
